Bulgaria to purchase new air defense systems from Germany
The Bulgarian parliament has approved a deal for the purchase of five additional IRIS-T air defense systems. The decision was made following a vote in the National Assembly, with Germany set to be the supplier of the modern equipment.
This investment in national security is valued at over 1.1 billion euros. These systems are designed to strengthen the capabilities of the Bulgarian armed forces to protect the country's airspace.
The acquisition of the new equipment is part of a long-term modernization plan for the Bulgarian army. The IRIS-T systems are considered among the most effective in the world for intercepting various types of aerial targets, including missiles and drones.
The new acquisitions are expected to significantly improve Bulgaria's defensive capabilities in the context of modern security challenges in the region. The project will be implemented in stages, with plans also in place for training Bulgarian specialists to operate the new technology.
