New data shows serious air pollution from Bobov Dol TPP
The organization Greenpeace Bulgaria has released alarming data regarding air quality in the area of the Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant. According to experts, the plant is responsible for multiple violations of environmental standards within just the first three weeks of 2026.
Data shows that over a period of 21 days, five cases of sulfur dioxide (SO2) levels exceeding limits and two instances of particulate matter (PM) exceedances were recorded. These indicators pose a direct threat to the health of people living near the energy facility.
Greenpeace criticizes the plant's management and trade unions, accusing them of concealing the truth about the actual state of emissions. According to environmentalists, pollution from the Bobov Dol TPP is among the most dangerous in the country and requires immediate action from state institutions.
At this time, official authorities have not commented on the new revelations, and representatives of the plant deny the allegations of systematic violations. The case has sparked a broad public outcry and has once again raised the question of the future of coal energy in Bulgaria and its impact on the environment.
