Nuclear threats and new clashes in the Middle East
Today's bulletin reflects the sharp tension in the two military conflicts closest to Bulgaria. Russian political circles are calling for nuclear strikes, while a mass evacuation has begun in Crimea, and in the Middle East, the ceasefire is threatened by new direct clashes between the US and Iran.
The risk of nuclear escalation is growing after Russian "hawks" called on Vladimir Putin to launch a nuclear strike on Ukraine and terminate negotiations with the US. According to them, Washington has broken its promises for a ceasefire favorable to the Kremlin. At the same time, Ukrainian forces hit a Russian artillery plant with "Flamingo" missiles, and President Zelenskyy proposed a meeting with Putin on the condition that Russia takes a step toward withdrawing its troops.
A humanitarian crisis and mass flight are being observed in Crimea, with a 15-kilometer queue of evacuees forming on the Crimean Bridge. Residents report a lack of electricity and communications, and gasoline is available almost exclusively to state services. Internal tension in Russia is also intensifying due to the threat from former commander Alexander Lunin, who demanded a meeting with Putin under the threat of an armed mutiny.
Maritime security is under threat after an Iranian drone strike on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the US attacked Iranian military targets for the first time in ten days. Tehran warned that it would not allow vessels to pass without its permission, creating a risk for global supply chains.
Peace in the neighboring region remains uncertain after Hezbollah rejected the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon. Despite the document signed in Washington, the pro-Iranian movement refuses to stop hostilities, undermining international stabilization efforts.
