Bulgarians demand more accessible healthcare and greater coverage from the NHIF
A new study shows that the majority of Bulgarians are dissatisfied with the current healthcare system in the country. According to the data, 76% of citizens insist that the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) should cover the costs of a wider package of medical services in order to reduce the financial burden on patients.
The problem of out-of-pocket payments for treatment remains a serious challenge for society. More than half of the respondents admit that they have been forced to pay extra for examinations, tests, or medications, despite being health insured. This necessitates additional expenses that often strain family budgets.
Experts note that the high rate of out-of-pocket payments is an indicator of the need for reforms in the sector. Citizens expect greater transparency and more effective management of the funds collected through health insurance contributions to ensure higher quality care without the need for additional payments.
In conclusion, the topic of the accessibility of medical services remains a priority for Bulgarian society. Institutions are expected to pay attention to these results when planning future changes in health policy in order to meet the needs of the people and ensure a more secure healthcare environment for everyone.
