The European Commission launches legal proceedings against Bulgaria
The European Commission has announced that it is launching legal proceedings against Bulgaria due to a failure to fulfill obligations related to European legislation. The reason for these measures is the failure to transpose two important directives into the country's national law.
The first directive concerns energy efficiency rules, which aim to reduce energy consumption and improve environmental standards in member states. The second directive is related to improving working conditions and protecting the rights of employees within the European Union.
According to EU rules, every country must adopt the necessary laws within a specified timeframe. Since Bulgaria has not met these requirements on time, the Commission is sending an official warning, which is the first step toward a lawsuit before the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Bulgarian authorities have already received formal letters requesting an explanation and a swift correction of the situation. If the country does not undertake the necessary legislative changes in the coming months, it could face serious financial sanctions.
Currently, Bulgarian institutions are working on preparing the necessary draft laws, which must be voted on by the National Assembly. It is expected that the state will bring its rules into compliance with European requirements as soon as possible in order to avoid further legal consequences.
