New data on air pollution from Bobov Dol TPP

The organization Greenpeace Bulgaria has published alarming data regarding the operations of the Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant. According to the information released, the plant was responsible for serious violations of environmental standards at the beginning of 2026.

The environmentalists' analysis shows that in a period of just 21 days, five cases of exceeded sulfur dioxide (SO2) levels and two instances of exceeded fine particulate matter (PM) levels were recorded. These values exceed the permissible limits set to protect human health and the environment.

Greenpeace claims that the actual state of pollution is more serious than what is being presented by the plant's management and trade union organizations. According to the environmentalists, the lack of transparency regarding harmful emissions prevents the public from receiving objective information about the air quality in the region.

The issue of pollution from coal-fired power plants remains one of the most debated topics in Bulgaria. Environmental organizations are demanding stricter control from state institutions to ensure compliance with European clean air standards.

At this moment, there is no official comment from Bobov Dol TPP regarding the new accusations. It is expected that the competent authorities will conduct an investigation into the data to determine whether the plant is violating the country's environmental legislation.
