Capacity of Kapitan Andreevo Border Crossing to be Expanded by 25 Percent
A large-scale reconstruction and modernization project has begun at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing. The state's goal is to improve the throughput capacity of the busiest border in the country and facilitate the movement of vehicles.
The investment in the project amounts to 43.55 million euros. Planned activities include the construction of new lanes and the renovation of existing infrastructure, which will allow for faster document processing and less waiting time for passing drivers.
It is expected that after the completion of the construction work, the capacity of the checkpoint will increase by 25 percent. This is of great importance both for international transport and for the Bulgarian economy, as Kapitan Andreevo is a key point for trade between Europe and Asia.
The modernization is part of the government's strategy to improve border control and security. The project is expected to reduce the queues of trucks that often form in the area and increase the efficiency of the border officers' work.
Authorities assure that measures will be taken during the repair work so that traffic through the checkpoint is not completely halted. The renovated border crossing is expected to be fully ready within the next few months.
