New data on air pollution from TPP Bobov Dol
The organization Greenpeace Bulgaria has published alarming data regarding the operations of TPP Bobov Dol. According to the released information, the power plant recorded numerous violations of environmental standards within just the first three weeks of 2026.
The analysis shows that over a period of 21 days, there were five instances of exceeding sulfur dioxide (SO2) levels and two instances of exceeding the limits for fine particulate matter (PM). These substances are harmful to human health and have a negative impact on the air quality in the region.
Greenpeace claims that the information provided by the plant's management does not reflect the real situation. According to the environmentalists, trade union organizations are also attempting to downplay the seriousness of the problem, even though the data shows significant toxic pollution.
The issue of coal-fired power plant operations remains one of the most debated topics in Bulgaria due to their impact on the environment and public health. Institutions are expected to conduct further inspections to determine whether TPP Bobov Dol is complying with current environmental legislation.
