New measures against "spoofing" phone scams in Bulgaria
The Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) and leading mobile operators in Bulgaria have begun working together to combat dangerous phone scams known as "spoofing." These scams are becoming increasingly frequent and are seriously threatening the security of consumers in the country.
In "spoofing" scams, criminals use special software to falsify the number that appears on your phone screen. Fraudsters often pose as bank employees, police officers, or government officials. Their goal is to gain people's trust and trick them into revealing personal data or transferring money.
The new initiative provides for the introduction of stricter technical protections in telecom networks. The goal is to block attempts to manipulate phone numbers before they reach end users. Experts are working on mechanisms to identify suspicious calls in real time.
Despite the technological improvements, the CRC reminds citizens that their vigilance remains the most important factor. It is important to know that no bank or government institution will ask you for passwords or money transfers over the phone. If you receive a suspicious call, it is best to hang up immediately and contact the institution through their official contact channels.
The new measures are expected to reduce the number of successful scams in the coming months. Authorities advise people to be careful and share information about this type of scam with their loved ones, especially the elderly, who are the most frequent targets of criminals.
