New data on serious air pollution from TPP Bobov Dol
Greenpeace Bulgaria has published alarming data regarding the operations of TPP Bobov Dol. According to experts, the power plant is responsible for repeated violations of air quality standards at the beginning of 2026.
Within just 21 days of the start of the year, five cases of sulfur dioxide (SO2) levels exceeding limits were recorded. Furthermore, two instances of exceeding permissible concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM) were identified. These indicators show that the plant's activity has a significant negative impact on the environment in the region.
Greenpeace criticizes the management of TPP Bobov Dol, claiming that information about harmful emissions is not being presented accurately to the public. According to the environmental organization, trade union structures are also attempting to downplay the seriousness of the problem instead of seeking real solutions to reduce toxic pollution.
The topic of air quality around coal-fired power plants remains one of the most important environmental issues in Bulgaria. Citizens and institutions continue to monitor the development of the case, as air purity is directly linked to the health of people living near such industrial sites.
