Faster Travel: Bulgaria and Serbia Work on a New Project at the Kalotina Border
Bulgaria and Serbia are launching an important project to improve traffic across their shared border. The two countries will cooperate on the construction of additional infrastructure in the Kalotina area. This initiative is part of the plans for modernizing transport links in the Balkans.
The Kalotina border crossing is the busiest of all five crossing points between the two countries. It is located on a key international corridor connecting Sofia and Niš. Due to its strategic location, the checkpoint serves a huge number of passenger cars and heavy-duty trucks every day.
The main goal of the new project is to reduce waiting times and facilitate traffic. Currently, the two countries are already better connected thanks to the completed sections of highways on both sides of the border. Improving the throughput capacity of the checkpoint itself is the next logical step for faster travel.
The changes are expected to have a positive effect not only on tourists but also on businesses. Many Bulgarian and Serbian companies rely on the regular transport of goods through this region. More efficient operations at the border will help develop economic relations between the neighboring countries.
This partnership demonstrates Bulgaria and Serbia's desire for closer cooperation in Southeast Europe. The modernization of border infrastructure is important for the security and comfort of all citizens traveling toward Western Europe or the Middle East.
