Parks Canada Employees Seek Better Mental Health Support
The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) is currently in negotiations with Parks Canada to improve working conditions for its members. The union is pushing for stronger mental health support and new policies to protect employees who work in high-stress environments.
A primary goal of these discussions is to secure specific leave for staff members who experience critical incidents while on the job. Many Parks Canada employees, such as park wardens and emergency responders, frequently face dangerous situations that can have a lasting impact on their well-being.
Union representatives argue that these changes are necessary to recognize the difficult and essential work performed by their members across the country. They believe that better support systems will not only protect the health of staff but also ensure that these professionals can continue to serve the public effectively.
As the bargaining process continues, the union remains focused on achieving a contract that prioritizes the mental health of its workers. Both sides are expected to continue talks to reach an agreement that addresses these concerns while maintaining the high standards of service expected at Canada’s national parks.
