Keurig refund deadline, SUV recall & more today
Today’s briefing covers an urgent deadline to claim money from a coffee pod settlement and a safety recall for thousands of SUVs. We also look at a heat warning for Manitoba and reports of rising gang activity linked to immigration.
You have until the end of today to claim a portion of a $1.85 million class-action settlement if you purchased Keurig coffee pods. The legal action followed claims that the company misled consumers about the recyclability of its single-serve pods. Eligible Canadians must submit their claim before the window closes tonight to receive a payment.
Thousands of SUV owners in Canada are urged to check for a new safety recall due to a "risk of injury." A major automaker is recalling the vehicles to address a specific defect that could lead to accidents. Owners of affected models should contact their dealers to arrange for necessary repairs.
Residents in southern Manitoba should prepare for a multi-day heatwave as Environment Canada warns of a prolonged period of high temperatures. The extreme heat increases the risk of heatstroke and exhaustion. Local authorities recommend staying hydrated and seeking air-conditioned spaces where possible during the peak afternoon hours.
Law enforcement is tracking the rise of Indian transnational gangs that are reportedly using Canada’s immigration system to expand their criminal networks. This activity has led to an increase in violence within the country, specifically impacting the Sikh community. The growth of these networks has raised significant safety concerns amid record-high immigration rates.
