Meta Announces C$13 Billion Data Center Project in Alberta
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has officially announced plans to build its first-ever data center in Canada. The massive facility will be located in Sturgeon County, Alberta, marking a significant expansion for the technology giant within the country.
The project represents a total investment of C$13 billion. According to company officials, the new site will be a 1-gigawatt data center, which is designed to support the increasing demand for digital services and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Sturgeon County was selected as the site for this development due to its strategic location and available energy resources. This investment is expected to create numerous jobs during the construction phase and will require a specialized workforce once the facility is fully operational.
This development is a major milestone for Canada’s growing technology sector. By establishing this infrastructure, Meta aims to improve the speed and reliability of its platforms for users across North America. The project highlights Canada's role as an attractive destination for large-scale international technology investments.
