Police Fine Driver Caught Sleeping Behind the Wheel of a Tesla
A driver in British Columbia is facing legal consequences after being caught sleeping while their vehicle was in motion. The incident occurred on August 27 on the Trans-Canada Highway in the city of Langley.
According to the British Columbia Highway Patrol (BCHP), an officer noticed a dark-coloured Tesla traveling at a high speed. As the officer passed the vehicle, they observed that the driver appeared to be fast asleep. The car was moving through traffic while the driver was not paying attention to the road.
Following the discovery, authorities took action against the motorist. The driver was issued a fine of $368 for their dangerous behavior. Police have used this event as a reminder that current vehicle technology does not allow drivers to sleep while a car is moving.
While many modern cars feature advanced driver-assistance systems, experts emphasize that these are not fully autonomous. Drivers are legally required to remain alert and ready to take control of their vehicle at all times to ensure the safety of everyone on the road.
