Canada Sells Retired Military Planes to Help Fight Forest Fires
The Canadian federal government has announced the sale of 10 retired CC-130H Hercules aircraft. These planes, which were previously used by the Royal Canadian Air Force, will be sold to a private company called Colson Aviation.
Colson Aviation plans to transform these military transport planes into specialized aerial firefighting aircraft. Once converted, these planes will be equipped to drop large amounts of water or fire retardant on forest fires from the sky.
This sale is a significant development for wildfire management. As Canada faces increasingly intense wildfire seasons, having more aircraft available to support ground crews is a priority for emergency services across the country.
By repurposing these retired military assets, the government is finding a practical way to support environmental safety. The converted Hercules planes are known for their durability and ability to carry heavy loads, making them well-suited for the difficult task of fighting large-scale forest fires.
This initiative highlights how older government equipment can be given a new purpose to serve the public. The conversion process will take place over the coming months, and the new firefighting fleet is expected to provide valuable support during future fire seasons.
