Unions warn of education cuts and more today
Public sector educational communities could face new resource limitations following warnings from the sector's main unions. Additionally, the Ministry of Housing is launching an internal investigation into protests at an official event.
Eight education unions warned of potential budget reductions that would affect the operation of public schools and working conditions. In a letter addressed to President José A. Kast, the organizations expressed their concern regarding the lack of resources and the management of the Local Public Education Services (SLEP), which are the institutions responsible for administering state schools. The leaders warned that, if the situation is not reversed, the 2027 budget could bring even deeper cuts to the school system.
In the housing sector, Minister Iván Poduje requested the identification of those responsible for the demonstrations that occurred during the anniversary of the Metropolitan Serviu, the state agency in charge of housing and urban planning in the capital. The minister demanded a detailed report from the institution's director to determine who organized the heckling and protests that interrupted the official government event.
