Chilean deputies call for investigation into Finance Minister's asset declaration
Two Chilean deputies, Juan Santana and Luis Cuello, have decided to file a formal request with the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic. The objective of this action is to investigate possible irregularities in the declaration of assets and interests of the current Minister of Finance, Jorge Quiroz.
The complaint focuses on an alleged omission of information in the official documents presented by the Secretary of State. According to the parliamentarians, it is necessary to clarify whether the minister correctly reported all his economic activities and properties before taking office in the current government.
Juan Santana, of the Socialist Party, and Luis Cuello, of the Communist Party, highlighted that transparency is a fundamental pillar for trust in institutions. They argue that all high-ranking officials must strictly comply with probity laws to avoid any type of conflict of interest in their decisions.
In the coming days, the Comptroller's Office must review the background information provided to determine if there is sufficient merit to initiate an in-depth investigation. Meanwhile, public opinion remains attentive to the official response from the Ministry of Finance regarding these accusations from the legislators.
