Today’s News: PDI Reinforces Security and Political Reform Proposed
Chile is strengthening its national security strategy with new commitments from the civil police and seeking greater institutional stability through a reform of the impeachment system in Congress. Additionally, the country's main public university begins a new stage with the change of its highest authority, while family celebrations are being prepared for this weekend.
In the framework of its 93rd anniversary, the Investigative Police (PDI) presented seven strategic commitments to strengthen public safety. Eduardo Cerna, director of the institution, reported that management will focus on improving border control and enhancing criminal investigation capabilities. These efforts seek to respond to citizen demand for greater protection and efficiency in the prosecution of complex crimes.
In the legislative sphere, a cross-party group of parliamentarians introduced a constitutional reform project to modify Constitutional Accusations. This legal tool is the procedure by which Congress can remove high-ranking state authorities. The proposal seeks to raise the requirements and the number of votes needed (quorums) to approve them, in order to prevent their use as a political weapon and to guarantee the country's governability, regardless of who is in power.
On the other hand, the University of Chile celebrated the inauguration of Professor Alejandra Mizala Salces as its new Rector. Mizala, who was elected by the academic community, received the institutional medal from Rosa Devés, becoming the second woman in history to lead this institution. Her administration will be marked by the challenges of public education and scientific research in the country.
For this weekend, Santiago offers various activities for Father's Day. The agenda includes free events, immersive technological experiences, and themed activities inspired by Star Wars. These options are designed to facilitate family gatherings in different parts of the capital.
Finally, in the commune of La Pintana, a new reading promotion program aimed at students was launched. The initiative, driven by the FEIZH Foundation, uses the recovery of local heritage and the history of the area to motivate young people to develop reading habits as a tool for social change.
