Hugo Vergel: Twenty years transforming the water service in Cúcuta
For decades, the residents of Cúcuta lived with great difficulties in accessing drinking water regularly. Many families had to wake up in the early hours of the morning to fill buckets and tanks, facing a situation of constant scarcity. However, this reality has changed significantly over the last 20 years under the leadership of Hugo Vergel at the company Aguas Kpital.
Hugo Vergel has led the company with an approach that combines technical improvement and citizen culture. Under his management, the city moved from an inefficient system to a much more modern and stable service. This change has allowed new generations of Cúcuta residents to grow up with a higher quality of life, leaving behind the resignation of not having water in their homes.
The director of Aguas Kpital warns that the city's water system requires permanent care and maintenance to function correctly. According to Vergel, it is fundamental to protect the technical knowledge that experts have accumulated during these two decades. He insists that any future transition in the operation of the service must be done carefully so as not to lose the progress achieved in infrastructure.
In addition to the technical aspect, Vergel highlights the importance of user education. For him, the success of a public utility company depends not only on pipes and technology, but also on the commitment of the community. Fostering a culture of conservation and responsible payment for the service have been fundamental pillars during his long leadership at the head of the organization.
In conclusion, Hugo Vergel's work has left an important mark on the development of Cúcuta. Although challenges still exist for the future, the transformation of the water service is an example of how consistent management can change the history of a city. The main challenge now is to ensure that these advances are maintained for the benefit of future generations.
