International justice, Caribbean crisis, and the political landscape mark current events
Colombian businessman Alex Saab is already on U.S. soil after being deported from Venezuela. Saab, who arrived escorted by DEA agents, must face federal charges originally filed in 2019. The U.S. justice system identifies him as the alleged mastermind behind a money laundering network that exploited the Venezuelan exchange control system to obtain dollars at preferential rates, in addition to being linked to corruption cases involving the state oil company PDVSA.
In the international sphere, Cuba is going through an unprecedented energy crisis with serious power and oil supply problems. Amidst this situation, CIA Director John Ratcliffe made a historic visit to Havana. This meeting occurs as rumors grow regarding a possible judicial indictment against Raúl Castro and questions arise about former President Donald Trump's intentions regarding the island.
In Colombia, the presidential race enters its final stage with high tensions.
