Day of mourning in Colombia due to serious acts of violence and femicides
Colombia is experiencing a day marked by sadness and concern today due to several acts of violence reported in different regions of the country. The incidents, involving direct attacks and gender-based violence, have generated a strong reaction from authorities and civil society, who are calling for justice and greater security for citizens.
The most recent event occurred in the city of Cali, where two women were murdered on the Bulevar del Oriente. According to initial investigations, the crime was committed by hired assassins who directly attacked the victims. Gerardo Mendoza, the Cali ombudsman, deeply rejected this act and stated that the city once again feels the weight of violence that unjustly takes lives.
On the other hand, in Medellín, police captured a 23-year-old man for the alleged femicide of his girlfriend, a young woman only 18 years old. The suspect confessed to physically assaulting the woman after a heated argument. Unfortunately, the injuries caused by the blows were so severe that they caused the young woman's death, causing great indignation in the capital of Antioquia.
In the department of Valle del Cauca, specifically in the municipality of Florida, authorities confirmed a macabre discovery. A mother and her son, who had been missing since April 19, were found dead and buried inside their own home. The police already have a hypothesis regarding the crime and have identified one person as the main suspect in this double homicide.
These cases have highlighted the vulnerability of women and the severity of domestic violence in the country. Human rights defenders point out that it is urgent to strengthen protection routes to prevent discussions or personal conflicts from ending in irreparable tragedies. The community demands that these crimes do not go unpunished.
Local authorities in Cali, Medellín, and Florida have promised to move forward quickly with the investigations. In the case of Medellín, the judicial process is already underway thanks to the capture of the aggressor. Meanwhile, in the other cases, it is expected that the collection of evidence will soon allow for the capture of those responsible for these violent acts.
Finally, the government and security institutions call on citizens to report any risky situations. The collaboration of neighbors and family members is fundamental to preventing new attacks and ensuring that cities are safer spaces for everyone. The country hopes that justice will act firmly in the face of these regrettable events.
