Colombia prepares for the second round of the 2026 presidential elections
Next Sunday, June 21, Colombia will experience a decisive election day for its political future. In this second round of the presidential elections, citizens must choose the next resident of the Casa de Nariño. The candidates competing in this final stage are Abelardo De La Espriella and Iván Cepeda.
Due to the magnitude of the event, authorities in Bogotá have announced special measures to guarantee security and public order. Various road closures have been scheduled at strategic points in the capital, especially in the city center and around Corferias, which is the largest polling station in the country.
The Secretariat of Mobility recommends that citizens plan their routes in advance. The vehicle restrictions aim to facilitate voters' access to the polls and allow for the work of election juries and witnesses. Public transportation is expected to operate normally, although some routes may experience temporary detours.
In addition to the closures in Bogotá, the national government has deployed a security plan throughout the territory to ensure that the day proceeds peacefully. Electoral authorities have asked the population to stay informed only through official channels to avoid the spread of false news during the voting day.
Finally, the results of these elections will define Colombia's course for the next four years. All Colombians are invited to exercise their right to vote early and to follow the instructions of the police and coexistence managers at the different polling stations across the country.
