RSF Organization: Journalists in the Czech Republic face frequent political attacks
The international organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has published a disturbing report on the state of media freedom in the Czech Republic. According to their data, Czech journalists and media houses are facing increasingly frequent verbal attacks from politicians.
Over the last six months, the organization recorded a total of 13 instances where politicians publicly attacked the work of the media. These attacks appeared shortly after the new government took office and have become, according to RSF, one of the prominent features of current political communication in the country.
According to the report, these public declarations are dangerous because they can diminish public trust in independent journalism. Criticism from politicians is often directed at specific newsrooms or individual journalists who attempt to hold power structures accountable.
The RSF organization has long monitored press freedom around the world. In the case of the Czech Republic, it emphasizes that open and critical media are an essential part of a functioning democracy. Therefore, it considers attacks on journalists to be a disturbing phenomenon that requires the attention of the public and experts alike.
The situation in the Czech Republic thus remains a topic discussed not only on the domestic political scene but also within international organizations focused on the protection of human rights and freedom of speech.
