How prepared is the Czech Republic for hybrid threats? Experts warn against disinformation
In recent years, the Czech Republic has been facing increasingly frequent hybrid threats. These attacks are not conducted with conventional weapons, but rather utilize a combination of cyberattacks, the spread of disinformation, and efforts to influence public opinion. The goal of these activities is to weaken citizens' trust in democratic institutions and to divide society.
Security experts point out that the greatest risk at present is the massive spread of false news on social media. These campaigns often focus on current political topics, the energy crisis, or the security situation in Europe. The attackers try to exploit people's fear and uncertainty to stir up chaos and distrust toward the state.
State institutions are therefore trying to actively respond to these threats. Special units are being established with the task of monitoring cyberspace and debunking false information. An important part of the defense is also public education. People are encouraged to verify information from multiple credible sources and not to be easily influenced by manipulative content.
In addition to cybersecurity, the Czech Republic is also focusing on the protection of critical infrastructure, such as energy networks or hospitals. These systems are increasingly becoming targets of hacker attacks. Cooperation with partners within the European Union and NATO is key in this area, as hybrid threats know no national borders.
Experts agree that the best defense is an informed society. The ability to think critically and recognize disinformation is just as important today as the technical security of computer networks. In the coming months, a series of awareness campaigns are therefore planned to help citizens better navigate the digital world.
