Czechia has the fewest women in IT fields in the entire European Union

New data from the European statistical office Eurostat show that very few women work in the field of information and communication technologies (IT) in the Czech Republic. According to statistics from the spring of 2026, women make up only 12.9 percent of IT specialists, which is the lowest share of all European Union member countries.

Experts point out that the low number of women in this sector begins as early as the selection of secondary schools and universities. Girls choose technical fields significantly less often than boys. This trend subsequently carries over to the labor market, where IT teams in Czech companies are composed predominantly of men.

The lack of women in technology is a long-term topic addressed by non-profit organizations and state institutions. According to analyses, a major role is played not only by the social perception of technical fields but also by insufficient support for girls in the study of mathematics, physics, and informatics during primary and secondary education.

While the demand for IT professionals in Czechia continues to grow, the low representation of women means that companies are not utilizing the full potential of the workforce. Experts agree that to improve the situation, it is necessary to motivate girls more to study technology and offer them better conditions for entering this dynamic field.
