Polish railways plan new connection to Hungary, the route will bypass Czech territory

Polish State Railways are preparing to expand their range of long-distance train connections, which are intended to link Poland with Hungary. The new route is planned to run from Krakow through the Polish city of Nowy Sącz and subsequently through the Slovak metropolises of Prešov and Košice to the final destination in Hungary.

The intention of this project is to speed up and streamline travel between these neighboring countries. The new connection is meant to offer an alternative to current transport options and support tourism as well as business travel in the Central European region.

For passengers from the Czech Republic, however, this news has no direct significance. The planned route is designed to run exclusively through Slovak territory, thereby completely avoiding the Czech railway network. Czech passengers will thus have to continue using existing connections to travel to these destinations.

While Poland and Slovakia are strengthening their mutual cooperation in the field of rail transport, the Czech side is not participating in this specific project. Experts are now monitoring what impact this new connection will have on the occupancy of international trains in the entire region.
