Czech government plans to change public media funding

There is concern that the government could use the budget as a tool of political pressure on journalists and thus influence the content of broadcasts.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and other organizations are monitoring these developments with great attention. They emphasize that the independence of public service media is a fundamental pillar of democracy in any country. According to them, it is important that any change in funding guarantees that the media will remain free and not be subject to the influence of the current political representation.
The debate on the future form of media funding will continue in the Chamber of Deputies in the coming months.
