Russia has published a list of enemies: The Czech Republic is at the top
Russia recently published a new ranking of countries it considers its greatest enemies. This list shows how Moscow perceives the current international situation and relations with other states. For Czech citizens, it is significant that the Czech Republic appeared in very high positions in this assessment, confirming the tense atmosphere between the two countries.
At the top of the ranking are countries such as Germany, Great Britain, and the Baltic states—namely Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. According to Russian authorities, these states are the most active supporters of Ukraine in the ongoing conflict. Moscow criticizes these countries primarily for their military aid and diplomatic pressure on Russia.
The Czech Republic ranked unexpectedly high on this list. This fact confirms that the Russian government perceives Czech foreign policy as very active and directed against Russian interests. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Czechia has been providing significant assistance to Kyiv, including arms supplies and humanitarian material, which Moscow views very negatively.
Relations between Prague and Moscow have been poor for a long time. Problems began several years ago, for example, in connection with the Vrbětice case, and the situation worsened further after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The current ranking is thus another confirmation that diplomatic relations between the two states are currently at a freezing point.
Experts state that such lists have primarily symbolic significance for Russia. They serve mainly for internal propaganda and to label states that clearly oppose Russian policy. For the Czech Republic, this ranking means that its aid to Ukraine is very visible on an international scale and that its positions carry weight on the international stage.
