South Bohemian Region battles drought: Reservoir levels are falling
The South Bohemian Region is currently struggling with a significant lack of precipitation. Consequently, the regional leadership officially declared a state of drought across its entire territory on Tuesday. This measure is essential for protecting water resources and ensuring sufficient water supplies for the coming period.
The situation is particularly serious at some smaller reservoirs. For example, the Husinec Dam is currently almost empty, which is raising concerns among local residents and farmers. Due to the low water levels, water managers are having to restrict outflows in order to maintain at least a minimum level in the streams below the dams.
Problems are not avoiding larger water works either. The Vltava Cascade, which is crucial for water supply and electricity generation, must now draw from its long-term reserves. The declared state of drought gives authorities the power to respond more flexibly to current developments and to better manage the water that remains in the landscape.
Experts warn that if significant rain does not arrive in the near future, the situation may continue to deteriorate. Residents are therefore urged to use drinking water sparingly and to limit unnecessary garden watering or filling of swimming pools. Authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely.
