Czechia votes: People are deciding the composition of local councils
Elections have begun in the Czech Republic, in which citizens are deciding the composition of their local councils. The voting is traditionally held over two days so that voters have enough time to come to their polling stations and express their opinion on the direction of their municipality or city.
Polling stations opened on Friday at 2:00 p.m., and the first round of voting will last until 10:00 p.m. People can also cast their votes on Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. After the polling stations close on Saturday afternoon, election commissions will begin counting the results.
Well-known figures from the Czech political scene have also already arrived at the polling stations. For example, former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and current President Petr Pavel have cast their votes. Their participation underscores the importance of municipal elections, which have a direct impact on everyday life in individual cities and municipalities.
The results of these elections will determine who will decide on investments, infrastructure development, or culture in the places where people live for the coming years. Participation in the elections is thus an important opportunity for residents to influence the character of their surroundings.
