Czech Republic and Slovakia plan joint purchase of new mortars
The Czech Republic and Slovakia are beginning negotiations on the joint purchase of military equipment. Minister of Defence Jaromír Zůna announced that both countries are interested in acquiring modern SAM-120 mortars. This step is intended to strengthen the defense capabilities of both states and streamline their cooperation within Central Europe.
New SAM-120 mortars are primarily intended for the needs of mechanized brigades. This equipment will allow the armies to respond more quickly and accurately to various crisis situations. Furthermore, a joint purchase should be more advantageous from an economic perspective, as both countries can share the costs of acquisition as well as subsequent maintenance of the weapons.
Defense experts emphasize that cooperation between neighboring states is very important in the current security situation. Standardizing equipment will facilitate joint soldier training and improve logistics during potential joint exercises or deployments in foreign missions.
Negotiations on the details of the contract will continue in the coming months. If both parties agree on the terms, the contract could be signed sometime next year. This project is further evidence of the deepening cooperation between the Czech and Slovak armies.
