Czech authorities have banned another betting platform: Kalshi is deemed illegal
The Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic has issued a decision restricting access to another foreign betting platform. Following the well-known site Polymarket, Czech users now also have blocked access to the Kalshi service. According to the authorities, these platforms operate in the Czech Republic without the necessary license and are therefore considered unauthorized gambling.
The Kalshi platform allows users to bet on the outcomes of various events, such as political elections or economic indicators. Although these services present themselves as prediction markets, Czech law classifies them as gambling. The operators of these websites do not have authorization from the Czech Ministry of Finance, which is essential for legally offering bets in the country.
State supervision of gambling has been focusing in recent months on digital platforms that use modern technology to circumvent rules. Authorities warn that using illegal sites poses significant risks to users. In the event of problems, such as unpaid winnings or technical difficulties, people cannot seek protection from Czech courts or institutions.
Internet service providers in the Czech Republic are now required to block access to these websites. If users attempt to visit the Kalshi or Polymarket sites, they will see a notice stating that the website is not in compliance with Czech legislation. The Ministry of Finance plans to continue monitoring illegal betting platforms in the coming period.
