The Czech medical team CZERT is ready to assist in global disasters
University Hospital Brno plays a key role in international humanitarian aid. Its special team, named CZERT (Czech Emergency Response Team), is ready for immediate deployment in areas affected by natural disasters or other crises. This team represents the Czech Republic on a global level and is prepared to go into action within a few hours.
The CZERT team consists of highly qualified experts from many medical fields. This includes specialists in surgery, traumatology, internal medicine, and intensive care medicine. Pediatricians and experts in gynecology and obstetrics are also an important part, allowing for the provision of comprehensive care for all groups of the population in need.
The EMT 1 designation means it is a level one mobile medical team according to World Health Organization (WHO) standards. Team members are capable of treating a large number of patients every day directly in the field. They are trained to work in extreme conditions where basic infrastructure, such as electricity or running water, is often missing.
A major advantage of the team is its complete self-sufficiency. The medical staff bring their own tents, generators, food supplies, and all medical materials. As a result, they do not burden local resources in a country already struggling with the aftermath of a disaster. Their main goal is to stabilize the injured and provide first aid where local hospitals are not functioning.
The existence of the CZERT team confirms the high standard of Czech healthcare. This initiative not only saves lives abroad but also brings valuable experience to our doctors and nurses, which they can also use in their domestic practice. The Czech Republic thus actively participates in global security and shows solidarity with people in need around the world.
