Severe storms hit the Czech Republic: Meteorologists warn of supercells
The Czech Republic has been hit in recent hours by a wave of intense storms accompanied by torrential rain. Meteorologists have issued warnings for most of the country, with areas in western Bohemia being the most affected. It is precisely there that experts say dangerous supercells are forming, which can bring hail and strong gusty winds.
Storm activity is complicating traffic in many places. Throughout the day, firefighters have had to respond to dozens of incidents, primarily due to fallen trees on roads and flooded basements. In some locations, there have also been temporary power outages, which technicians are working intensively to repair.
Experts from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute warn that the situation remains unstable. Supercells are specific due to their rotation and ability to produce very heavy precipitation in a short time, which can lead to a rapid rise in the water levels of smaller streams. Residents in at-risk areas should monitor the current weather forecast and limit time spent outdoors.
Although the storms are gradually moving eastward, the risk of extreme weather phenomena persists until late into the night. Authorities recommend securing loose objects in gardens and on balconies that could be blown away by strong winds. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates.
