Czech Republic is building its own communication network for state agencies for half a billion crowns
The Czech Republic has begun preparations for the construction of a special communication network that will serve exclusively the needs of state institutions and emergency services. The project, with costs estimated at half a billion crowns, is intended to ensure secure and stable connectivity in crisis situations, such as natural disasters or widespread outages of standard mobile operators.
The new network will not be intended for ordinary citizens. Its main advantage is expected to be high resilience and independence from commercial telecommunications service providers. The state is thus trying to prevent situations where, in the event of public network congestion, it would be impossible to effectively coordinate the work of the police, firefighters, or emergency medical services.
Experts point out that investing in its own infrastructure is a strategic move for national security. In an era of growing cyber threats, it is crucial for the state to have its own communication channels that are not compromised by commercial interests or the technical problems of private companies. The system should be fully functional within the next few years.
Critics of the project, however, point to the high cost and the demanding nature of maintaining such a system. The state will have to ensure not only the construction of transmitters but also regular technology updates and training for the personnel who will operate the network. The Ministry of the Interior, however, emphasizes that the safety of citizens is a priority that justifies the financial costs.
The entire project is currently undergoing the planning and technical solution selection phase. If the construction is successful, the Czech Republic will join the ranks of countries that have their own independent communication infrastructure for crisis management. We will continue to monitor the development of the situation.
