Czech startups struggle to seize opportunities in the defense industry
The Czech Republic is currently unable to fully utilize the potential of new technologies in the field of defense. According to the head of a major NATO accelerator, domestic companies are facing difficulties in implementing innovations, even in cases where these technologies are available for free or with significant support.
So far, only four Czech startups have managed to make it into the prestigious NATO acceleration program, which focuses on supporting modern defense technologies. Experts point out that this number does not reflect the innovation potential that the Czech Republic possesses in the technology sector.
According to experts, the main obstacle is the insufficient connectivity between Czech companies and international defense structures. While foreign companies, including British startups, are able to grow rapidly thanks to cooperation with alliance programs, Czech firms often encounter administrative barriers or a lack of awareness regarding the opportunities available to them.
The situation requires a change in approach so that Czech innovations do not remain merely theoretical. If the Czech Republic wants to strengthen its role within collective defense, it must focus more on supporting companies that are developing technologies applicable for security purposes.
Improving this situation is crucial not only for the development of the Czech industry but also for the overall defense capability of the country. In the future, it will therefore be essential for both the state and the private sector to more actively seek out opportunities within international programs and to more effectively bridge the gap between research and practice.
