Czech Republic plans construction of small nuclear reactors in Dětmarovice and Tušimice

The Czech Republic is taking another important step in the energy sector. The government and the company ČEZ have agreed to begin preparations for the construction of small modular reactors. These modern energy sources are to be built on the sites of existing coal-fired power plants in Dětmarovice and Tušimice.

Small modular reactors represent a new technology that is considered safer and more flexible than traditional large nuclear units. The project is being developed in cooperation with Rolls-Royce, which is one of the world leaders in this field. The goal is to gradually replace aging coal-fired power plants with a cleaner and more stable energy source.

The selection of the locations in Dětmarovice and Tušimice is not accidental. These sites already have the necessary infrastructure for electricity transmission in place and possess experienced workers who have been active in the energy sector for many years. Furthermore, utilizing existing industrial sites simplifies the preparation and construction process.

In addition to these two locations, the construction of the first small reactor in the Czech Republic is also planned near the Temelín nuclear power plant. This pilot project is intended to serve as a model for the further development of nuclear energy in the country. The entire plan is part of a broader strategy aimed at ensuring the Czech Republic's energy self-sufficiency in the coming decades.
