End of an era: The Czech Republic to lose its tallest structure near Český Brod

The Czech Republic is facing a significant change in its landscape in the near future. Two giant transmitter masts in Liblice, near Český Brod, which at 355 meters are the tallest structures in the country, will be demolished after more than fifty years of operation.

These structures were built in the 1970s and served for many decades to broadcast radio signals on medium waves. Thanks to their height, which exceeds even the well-known transmitter on Ještěd or the television tower in Žižkov, they have become an unmissable landmark of the Central Bohemian landscape.

The decision to demolish them comes after broadcasting technologies have changed significantly. The operators have concluded that maintaining such extensive and old metal structures is no longer economical and is technically demanding. In today's era of digital broadcasting and the internet, these massive masts are no longer necessary for signal distribution.

Demolishing such tall objects will be a technically very complex operation that requires careful preparation. Experts will have to ensure the safety of the surroundings and choose the right procedure so that the structures fall to the ground in a controlled manner. The exact date for the removal of the transmitters has not yet been definitively set.

With the departure of these masts, the Czech Republic will lose its height record. After their demolition, the tallest structure in the country will become the transmitter in Krašov in the Plzeň region, which measures 347 meters. For local residents and fans of technical monuments, one long chapter in the history of Czech broadcasting will thus come to an end.
