The Czech Republic invests less in science and research than the European average
Last year, the Czech Republic spent a total of 43 billion CZK on research and development. Although this amount may seem high, experts point out that in international comparisons, our country still lags behind its European neighbors.
According to current data, the Czech state directs approximately 0.51 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) toward science and research. However, the European average is significantly higher, standing at 0.69 percent of GDP. This difference shows that support for innovation in the Czech Republic is not as strong as in many other European Union member states.
Analysis further shows that when calculated per capita, investments in Czech research remain below the levels seen in advanced European economies. Insufficient funding in this area could pose a risk to the competitiveness of Czech companies in the global market in the future.
Experts agree that if the Czech Republic wants to keep pace with technological progress and innovation, it will need to increase its investments in science and research in the coming years. Increasing support is crucial not only for the academic sphere but also for the development of modern technologies in Czech industry.
