Daylight saving time in the Czech Republic continues: The European Union has no plans for change yet

Residents of the Czech Republic will have to get used to the regular shifting of clocks for the coming years. Although the abolition of the switch between summer and winter time was frequently discussed in the past, no concrete steps have been taken at the European Union level so far. As a member state, the Czech Republic must follow common European rules and therefore cannot decide on this matter independently.

According to current information, the time change will continue at least until the end of the decade. Next year, the time will change on March 28, when we switch to summer time, and subsequently on October 31, when we return to winter time. This system will also apply in subsequent years, for which the exact dates for the transitions between the two times have already been set.

For example, in 2028, the clocks will shift on March 26 and October 29. In 2029, we can expect changes on March 25 and October 28. The schedule is set to be uniform throughout the European Union to avoid complications in transport or international trade.

The debate about abolishing the time change began several years ago, when many people complained about negative impacts on health and sleep. However, member states were unable to agree on whether permanent summer time or winter time should be introduced. Until there is political consensus among all EU states, the current system will remain unchanged.
