Czechia plans its own artificial intelligence: The goal is independence and a national language model
The Czech Republic has decided to actively join the global race in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The government commissioner for digitalization has announced a plan to create an "AI Gigafactory," which is intended to serve as a base for the development of domestic technologies. The goal of the project is not merely to follow global trends, but to ensure that Czechia has its own tools that will be fully under state control.
A key component of this plan is the development of a Czech language model. According to experts, it is not necessary for this system to surpass the world's most powerful models, such as ChatGPT. It is more important that the model be built on Czech data, understand the specifics of the Czech language, and respect the Czech cultural and legal environment. A proprietary solution should ensure data security as well as independence from large foreign corporations.
The project is also intended to support Czech science and industry. The government believes that investment in AI development will bring new job opportunities and strengthen the competitiveness of Czech companies in the European market. Cooperation between the academic sphere, technology companies, and the state is considered a necessary condition for success in this process.
While preparations for the project continue, experts point to the complexity of the entire process, particularly the need for a large amount of high-quality data and computing power. Nevertheless, it is Czechia's ambition to become one of the European centers for the development of digital technologies in the future, which will serve both citizens and the state administration.
