The Czech Republic could acquire a state-of-the-art diagnostic device for cancer treatment
The Czech Republic is planning a significant strengthening of its medical technology sector. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš announced that he will strive to acquire a state-of-the-art whole-body PET/CT scanner. This technology is currently missing in Czech hospitals, despite being crucial for modern diagnostics.
PET/CT scanners are essential in medicine for the precise detection of oncological diseases. The new type of whole-body scanner can create more detailed images of a patient's entire body much faster than older models. As a result, doctors can better monitor the spread of cancer in the body and initiate appropriate treatment in a timely manner.
Introducing this technology would represent a major step forward for Czech patients. The modern device makes it possible to reduce the dose of radiation to which a patient is exposed during the examination, while simultaneously increasing comfort during the scanning process itself. For doctors, the higher accuracy of the results is key, which is essential for a successful recovery.
Experts and the public are now awaiting the government's next steps, which will determine when and to which hospital the device could be acquired. If the project is successfully implemented, the Czech Republic will join the ranks of countries with the best available technology for fighting oncological diseases.
