Czech startups struggle to seize defense opportunities, says NATO accelerator chief
The Czech Republic is currently unable to fully leverage modern technologies in the field of defense. According to the head of a major NATO acceleration program that supports innovative companies, Czech startups often fail to take advantage of the opportunities offered, even when they are available to them free of charge.
The NATO acceleration program serves as an important bridge between technology companies and the security sector. Its goal is to accelerate the development of technologies that can help protect the alliance's member states. Participation in this program offers companies not only financial support but also access to valuable contacts and expertise.
However, results to date show that the involvement of Czech companies remains very limited. So far, only four Czech startups have managed to make it into the prestigious program. Experts point out that the Czech innovation ecosystem has great potential but faces barriers in communication and the ability to succeed in the international defense industry.
While some foreign companies, for example from Great Britain, are able to effectively utilize these opportunities and grow rapidly thanks to NATO support, Czech firms are lagging behind. The problem may be a lack of awareness or concerns about the demanding processes associated with the defense sector.
Improving this situation is key to strengthening Czech defense capabilities and supporting the domestic economy. If the obstacles faced by Czech startups can be removed, the local technology sector could become an important player in the security of the entire North Atlantic Alliance.
