This is the amount that Austrians actually spend on New Year's Eve

As Austrians prepare to welcome the new year, spending on celebrations has already begun. According to a new report from HV Consumer Check, the average Austrian citizen plans to spend about 170 euros in addition to their usual weekly expenses. These costs include food, drinks, party supplies, gifts, and trinkets, making New Year's Eve one of the most expensive celebration days of the season.

Spending habits vary significantly between regions. In Tyrol and Vorarlberg, residents plan to spend the largest amount, averaging 193 euros per person. This is followed by Vienna at 181 euros, while Carinthia and Styria average 174 euros. Salzburg and Upper Austria have a budget of 159 euros, and Lower Austria and Burgenland are the most conservative, averaging 153 euros per person.

Food and charms top the spending list for Austrians on New Year's Eve, with 67% of them focusing on these. Alcoholic beverages, including sparkling wine and champagne, come next at 54%. Sweets, non-alcoholic drinks, and fireworks also hold significant importance, reflecting the spirit of celebration. Interestingly, one in four Austrians prefers not to do any additional shopping, settling for what they already have.

Other common expenses include decorations (15%), party supplies (13%), new clothes (10%), and cosmetics or beauty products (8%). Fireworks remain an essential part of the celebrations for 18% of Austrians, highlighting the country's love for fireworks as midnight approaches.

In general, the data shows that New Year's Eve in Austria represents both a cultural and financial occasion. While some regions choose to spend generously, others take a more modest approach; however, it seems that everyone is united in appreciating food, drinks, and charms to make the start of the new year special.
