The number of job vacancies in Austria is expected to decrease by nearly 20 percent by the year 2025.

Official data from the Austrian Statistics Authority showed a decline in the number of job vacancies in the country during 2025, for the third consecutive year, compared to previous years. According to the figures, the number of job vacancies in 2025 was about 139,900, a decrease of 19.5 percent compared to 2024. This decline follows a peak recorded in 2022, when the number of job vacancies reached 230,400, the highest number recorded since data collection began in 2009.

This decline was also reflected in the vacancy rate of total job opportunities available, which reached 3.2 percent as an annual average during the year 2025, which is about 0.8 percentage points lower than the previous year. The trade and services sector recorded the largest number of vacancies during the year 2025, with a total of 82,200 jobs, followed by the production sector with about 34,900 jobs, and then the public and social sector with about 22,800 vacant jobs.

Regarding the nature of the announced jobs, the percentage of full-time positions remained high with little change, at 82.5 percent of total job vacancies. In contrast, a slight increase was recorded in the levels of gross income offered, with the percentage of jobs paying more than 3,100 euros being about 24.1 percent, compared to 21.7 percent in 2024. The expected gross salaries ranged between 2,400 and 3,100 euros in about 29.7 percent of the jobs.

The data showed that 40.1 percent of job vacancies required only the completion of compulsory education, while about 30 percent of employers required a vocational training certificate. Additionally, 10.9 percent of jobs required a high school diploma, and 11.8 percent required a higher qualification. The percentage of job vacancies allocated for vocational training was about 9 percent of the total jobs.
