Two thieves escape after blowing up an ATM in Vienna
In the early hours of the morning on June 22, 2025, specifically at 3:45 AM, a violent explosion occurred inside a branch of a supermarket in the Donaustadt area (District 22) of Vienna, targeting an ATM, according to the Austrian police.
Immediately after the incident, the regional command room received an urgent report, and police teams rushed to the site, discovering severe damage to the ATM. Initial data indicates that the perpetrators of the crime were two men who broke the glass door of the supermarket to enter, and then used an explosive device to blow up the ATM.
The suspects fled the scene after carrying out the explosion on a motorcycle, and police efforts to locate them have been unsuccessful despite the initiation of an immediate search campaign. The Criminal Investigation Office in Vienna, "Landeskriminalamt," is handling the case, urging citizens to provide any information confidentially by calling 01 31310 33800 or through the nearest police station.
This incident comes in the context of a series of ATM explosions that Vienna has recently witnessed, especially in the Donaustadt area, where such crimes have occurred multiple times, raising concerns among both residents and authorities.
