Collect your CNE payment & 10 new prohibited drugs
Today marks the deadline for thousands of citizens to collect their payment for participating in the last elections, while the Government bans ten new synthetic drugs. Additionally, security is under scrutiny following incidents in Montañita and Quito, and the World Cup officially begins.
If you worked as a member of a Vote Receiving Board (MJRV) —the tables where votes are cast— in the 2025 Referendum, you must go and collect your payment. The National Electoral Council (CNE) reminded that the money is available at authorized banks only until the established deadline, so it is recommended to complete the process as soon as possible to avoid losing this benefit for your public service.
Please note that ten new synthetic substances have been added to the list of prohibited drugs in Ecuador. The Ministry of Public Health included these compounds in its control list, meaning that their possession or sale is now illegal, allowing police and judges to take action against those who distribute or consume them.
Security in tourist areas and nightlife events is causing concern following the death of Polish activist Mónika Silva in Montañita, Santa Elena, a case for which the Polish government is demanding a clear investigation. Likewise, in Conocoto (Quito), authorities suspended a massive party with 200 unsupervised minors; so far this year, 22 similar clandestine events have already been sanctioned in the capital.
Today at 12:30 p.m., the broadcast of the 2026 World Cup begins for Ecuador with the opening ceremony in Mexico. On the other hand, a demographic report reveals a critical situation for the future of the country: in the last three decades, more young men have died from preventable causes, such as accidents or violence, than have been born.
