Collect your CNE payment, new drugs & more
Today is a key day for those who participated in the last elections and for football fans with the start of the 2026 World Cup. Additionally, the Government is tightening controls against synthetic substances, and an incident involving a foreign activist on the Ecuadorian coast is being investigated.
If you worked as a member of a Polling Station (MJRV) — the people in charge of receiving and counting votes — in the 2025 Referendum, you can now withdraw your financial compensation. The National Electoral Council (CNE) has enabled payment at authorized financial institutions and recommends going soon to receive this money before the established legal deadline for collection expires.
Please note that 10 new substances have been added to the list of drugs subject to oversight in the country. The Ministry of Health took this measure to strengthen control over synthetic narcotics, which allows authorities to prosecute those who possess or market these recently identified chemical compounds.
Regarding security issues, the Polish government has requested a transparent investigation from Ecuador into the death of activist Mónika Silva in Montañita, a tourist resort in the province of Santa Elena. The case has garnered international attention following the death recorded this Monday, prompting demands for impartiality to clarify the causes of what happened in the area.
Finally, the inauguration of the 2026 World Cup begins today at 12:30 (Ecuador time) from Mexico. In Quito, authorities are warning about sanctions after shutting down a clandestine party with a thousand attendees, including 200 minors, in Conocoto, a parish in the Valle de los Chillos; so far this year, 22 proceedings have already been opened for events that did not have the necessary permits.
