Unidad Popular requests to annul its cancellation before the Electoral Court
The Ecuadorian political organization Unidad Popular has filed a formal request with the Contentious Electoral Tribunal (TCE). The objective of this legal action is to seek the annulment of the resolution issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE), which determined the cancellation of the party's legal status.
Representatives of Unidad Popular argue that the CNE's decision is unfair and lacks solid legal grounds. According to the organization, this process directly affects their political participation rights and limits the options for citizens in the country's upcoming democratic processes.
In addition to the request for annulment, party leaders have publicly denounced what they consider the beginning of "electoral fraud." They maintain that the elimination of their political movement is a strategy to reduce competition and benefit other political sectors before the elections.
The Contentious Electoral Tribunal must now review the evidence presented by Unidad Popular and decide whether to uphold or revoke the cancellation. This decision is crucial for the future of the organization, as it will determine whether they can field candidates and participate actively in Ecuador's political life.
